Punjabi Cultural Association
History of Punjabi Cultural Association
The Punjabi Cultural Association was established in 1994 to promote Punjabi Culture, language, and traditional sports and to foster integration and better understanding of the wider New Zealand community.
It provided a platform for the newly arrived professionals and business Punjabis to interact with other members of the Indian Diaspora.
In 2000, it leased a premise at 158 Kolmar Rd Papatoetoe, which was set up as a vernacular Sunday school, a gymnasium, and a centre to pioneer cultural classes of young people, participating in the Diwali, Baisakhi, and Independence Day celebrations, etc., right through the year.
The Punjabi Cultural Association became an Associate Member of NZICA in 2005 and
has ever since contributed wholeheartedly to Central Body.
